RETINA CLINIC

The retina is like the film in a camera. It is the seeing tissue of the eye. When the focused light hits the retina, a picture is created and sent to the brain through the optic nerve (the nerve of the eye), thus giving us vision.

 

Retina has two parts - The peripheral retina and central Macula. Macula being the central part, is capable of producing sharp and clear image. This clear images enable us to read , write and do all fine work.

 

HOW IT CAN BE AFFECTED?

1) Diabetes.

2) Age Related Eye Changes.

3) High Glass Numbers.

4) Systemic Vascular diseases like Hypertension etc.

 

DIAGNOSIS & TREATMENT:

When Retinal disease is diagnosed, the patient is advised to get an Angiography of the eye done. This is called Fundus Fluroscein Angiography. It is a simple procedure where a special injection is given and digital photographs of the retina are taken. This is very useful in detecting the exact nature of the retinal diseases.

 

Treatment of the retinal conditions is usually by Laser & Special Retinal injections. Surgery might be required in advanced cases.
